The Foundation

Kindness. The quality of being friendly, generous and considerate is much needed in today’s world. Even one act of compassion, however large or small, can make a genuine and lasting difference in the life of someone who is suffering.

With that insight of compassion, One Drop of Kindness was created by renowned Tibetan singer Yungchen Lhamo as a non-profit foundation in 2004.

Through carefully selected projects, the foundation seeks to bring specific material support and healing inspiration to distressed communities both within the U.S. and in other countries–focusing on direct aid, charitable giving and community outreach.

Detailed information about successfully completed projects to date, as well as current charitable ventures underway, can be found under Impact.

Our Founder

Yungchen Lhamo is an internationally acclaimed Tibetan singer originally from Lhasa, whose moving performances have graced the world’s stages since 1995. Her name, which translates to “Goddess of Melody,” was given to her by a lama at birth.

In 1989 Yungchen made the month-long, 1,200-mile journey from Tibet to Dharamsala, India to pursue her dreams. She later moved to Australia, where she began to sing prayers of meditation that inspired her to record her first album Tibetan Prayer, which won the Australian Recording Industry Award (ARIA) for Best World Music Album in 1995.

Yungchen was then signed to Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records label on which she released three more albums: Tibet, Tibet (1996), Coming Home (1998), and Ama (meaning “mother”), featuring songs with Annie Lennox and Joy Askew (2006). In 2013, she released Tayatha, a collaborative album with Russian classical pianist Anton Batagov.

More recently, Yungchen’s album Awakening was released in 2022, using her extraordinary voice and talents to explore themes of compassion-based spirituality while living with the stresses of modern day life so sharply experienced by everyone during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her seventh album, 'One Drop of Kindness', was released by Real World Records in September 2023."

Yungchen founded the One Drop of Kindness Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization, in 2004 to help distressed communities in the U.S. and other countries through direct aid, charitable giving, community outreach and the power of inspirational music and song.
